VACANT

How to play

  • Every day at midnight Singapore time there are seven new questions. Everyone gets the same seven, in the same order.
  • Every answer is a number: a year, a height, a count, a distance.
  • You get 20 seconds per question. When time’s up, whatever is in the box is locked in (an empty box counts as 0). The clock keeps running if you leave mid-question.
  • Press Lock it in to submit. Locked answers can’t be changed, even if you reload.
  • Read the answer and explanation, then press Next. Nothing moves on until you do.
  • Your first sitting each day is the one that counts. There are no retries.

Scoring

Each question is worth up to 1,000 points, so a perfect day is 7,000. Closer guesses score more, and speed doesn’t matter. For most questions, closeness is measured as a ratio, so guessing double the answer scores the same as guessing half. Year questions count how many years you are off. Scores never go negative: one wild guess can only cost you that question’s 1,000.

Formula: points = 1,000 × e−2d, where d = |ln(guess ÷ answer)|. Years: points = 1,000 × e−0.05 × years off. Adapted from the closeness scoring popularised by daily estimation games.

Your title

Your title depends on how many of today’s players you beat:

  • King of the can: beat 90% or more
  • Throne scholar: beat 65%–89%
  • Business concluded: beat 35%–64%
  • Better luck next sitting: beat 10%–34%
  • Brain farted: beat 0%–9%

Until at least 10 people have finished on a given day, you’re compared with a typical-day bell curve instead of real players, and the result screen says so.

Streaks

Finish on consecutive Singapore dates to build a streak. If midnight strikes mid-game, you can still finish that sitting and it counts for the day it started. Streaks and history live on this device only.
